R e g u l a t i o n 3 . 2 6 — D e g r e e o f B a c h e l o r o f S c i e n c e ( E d u c a t i o n )
1. A c a n d i d a t e for the degree of Bachelor of Science ( E d u c a t i o n ) shall, after m a t r i c u l a t i n g , pursue his studies for at least four years, and pass e x a m i n a t i o n s in a c c o r d a n c e w i t h the c o n d i t i o n s p r e s c r i b e d .
2. The subjects of the course for the degree and the c o n d i t i o n s on w h i c h such subjects may be taken shall be as prescribed f r o m t i m e to t i m e by the A c a d e m i c B o a r d on the r e c o m m e n d a t i o n of the faculty of Science after c o n s u l t a t i o n w h e r e relevant w i t h the f a c u l t y of Education and p u b l i s h e d together w i t h the d e t a i l s of s u b j e c t s .
3. ( 1 ) D u r i n g each Year a c a n d i d a t e shall attend classes and p e r f o r m w r i t t e n , p r a c t i c a l , l a b o r a t o r y , field and c l i n i c a l w o r k prescribed by the A c a d e m i c Board on the r e c o m m e n d a t i o n of the faculty and p u b l i s h e d w i t h the details of subjects unless he satisfies the faculty that he has had appropriate t r a i n i n g e l s e w h e r e .
( 2 ) A c a n d i d a t e w h o enrols for a s e c o n d or subsequent t i m e in any subject for w h i c h practical w o r k is p r e s c r i b e d shall be required to repeat the w h o l e of such practical w o r k , save in so far as he is e x e m p t e d by the head of the d e p a r t m e n t responsible for such practical w o r k .
4. ( D A c a n d i d a t e ' s progress in his course ol study shall be by years.
Such years shall be defined by a c u m u l a t i v e total of points to be scored as a credit for e x a m i n a t i o n s p a s s e d . The p o i n t s to be scored for each subject of e x a m i n a t i o n passed shall be as p r e s c r i b e d f r o m t i m e to t i m e by the A c a d e m i c Board on the r e c o m m e n d a t i o n of the f a c u l t y and
p u b l i s h e d together w i t h the d e t a i l s of s u b j e c t s . (2) A c a n d i d a t e shall b e —
(a) in the first year of his course until such t i m e as his c u m u l a t i v e p o i n t s score shall equal or exceed t w e n t y - e i g h t p o i n t s ;
(b) in the second year of his course until such t i m e as his c u m u l a t i v e points score shall equal or exceed sixty p o i n t s ; (c) in the t h i r d year of his course until such t i m e as his
c u m u l a t i v e points score shall equal or exceed one h u n d r e d p o i n t s ;
(d) in the f o u r t h year of his course until such t i m e as his c u m u l a t i v e p o i n t s score shall equal or exceed one h u n d r e d a n d forty p o i n t s .
(3) The c u m u l a t i v e points score o b t a i n e d by a c a n d i d a t e shall equal or exceed 100 points for Science s u b j e c t s a n d 40 points for Education s u b j e c t s .
5. ( 1 ) A c a n d i d a t e w h o does not pass in a subject other than School Practice may be c r e d i t e d by the f a c u l t y w i t h the points to be scored for that subject, h a v i n g regard to his p e r f o r m a n c e in all subjects taken by h i m (whether taken at one annual e x a m i n a t i o n or m o r e ) , in accordance w i t h the p r i n c i p l e s d e t e r m i n e d by the faculty f r o m t i m e to t i m e and a p p r o v e d by the A c a d e m i c B o a r d .

( E d u c a t i o n ) ( 2 ) A c a n d i d a t e w h o has w i t h o u t passing in a subject been c r e d i t e d by the faculty w i t h the points to be s c o r e d therefore shall not be per- m i t t e d to proceed to a higher part of that subject, but shall be a l l o w e d to p r o c e e d w i t h other subjects of a later year of the course for w h i c h a pass in that subject may be a p r e r e q u i s i t e .
6. No c a n d i d a t e may pursue a course of study or receive c r e d i t for e x a m i n a t i o n s passed unless his p r o p o s e d s e l e c t i o n of subjects and the years of his course in w h i c h they are to be taken have been a p p r o v e d by the f a c u l t y . A n y subsequent a l t e r a t i o n s in the course of study m u s t be approved by the f a c u l t y .
7. The f a c u l t y may a l l o w a c a n d i d a t e to s u b s t i t u t e for any subject of his course another subject of a u n i v e r s i t y course w h i c h i s , in its o p i n i o n , of at least equal standard and relevant to the c a n d i d a t e ' s course of s t u d y . The points to be scored for passing the e x a m i n a t i o n in any such substi- tuted subject shall be p r e s c r i b e d by the f a c u l t y .
8. A c a n d i d a t e w h o , h a v i n g c o m p l e t e d or s i m u l t a n e o u s l y being a candi- date for any other degree, enrols in the course for the degree of Bachelor of Science ( E d u c a t i o n ) may. w i t h the a p p r o v a l of the f a c u l t y , be given credit for subjects the e q u i v a l e n t of w h i c h have been passed by h i m in the course for such other degree. The total number of points to be so scored by h i m in respect of such subjects shall not exceed f o r t y .
9. A c a n d i d a t e w h o has c o m p l i e d w i t h the p r e s c r i b e d c o n d i t i o n s and o b t a i n e d a c u m u l a t i v e p o i n t s score equal to or e x c e e d i n g one h u n d r e d a n d f o r t y points may be a d m i t t e d to the degree of Bachelor of Science

10. ( 1 ) No c a n d i d a t e shall be a d m i t t e d to the First Year of the course a f t e r 3 0 November 1 9 8 0 .
(2) No c a n d i d a t e shall be a d m i t t e d pursuant to section 8 or per- m i t t e d to proceed pursuant to R e g u l a t i o n 3.1.7 to the Second Year of the course after 3 0 A p r i l 1 9 8 1 .
(3) No c a n d i d a t e shall be p e r m i t t e d to proceed pursuant to Regu- lation 3.1.7 to the T h i r d Year of the course after 3 0 A p r i l 1 9 8 2 .
| T e m p o r a r y Regulation
1 . A c a n d i d a t e w h o has been a d m i t t e d to and o b t a i n e d c r e d i t for any subject of the course before 31 D e c e m b e r 1 9 8 2 may c o m p l e t e the course under the regulations in force on 3 0 N o v e m b e r 1 9 8 0 .
2 . T h i s temporary r e g u l a t i o n shall e x p i r e on 1 M a r c h 1 9 8 6 . |

1. P r e r e q u i s i t e s and S p e c i a l C o n d i t i o n s
(i) Except w h e r e o t h e r w i s e p r o v i d e d , or w i t h the special p e r m i s s i o n of the Science Faculty, no c a n d i d a t e s shall be a d m i t t e d to e x a m i n a t i o n in any unit of the course unless he has the specified prerequisite units, and satisfies any special c o n d i t i o n s associated w i t h that u n i t . (ii) A c a n d i d a t e w h o has, w i t h o u t passing a unit, been c r e d i t e d w i t h
the points for that u n i t , shall not proceed to higher level units in that course, but shall be a l l o w e d to proceed to higher levels of other courses for w h i c h a pass in that u n i t is a p r e r e q u i s i t e .

(i) Each u n i t at first-year level shall be k n o w n as a 1 0 0 - l e v e l u n i t , and shall be d e s i g n a t e d w i t h i n the relevant d e p a r t m e n t by n u m b e r s between 1 0 0 a n d 1 9 9 .
(ii) Each unit at second-year level shall be k n o w n as a 2 0 0 - l e v e l unit, and shall be d e s i g n a t e d w i t h i n the relevant d e p a r t m e n t by n u m b e r s b e t w e e n 2 0 0 and 2 9 9 .
( i i i ) Each unit at t h i r d - y e a r level shall be k n o w n as a 3 0 0 - l e v e l u n i t , and shall be d e s i g n a t e d w i t h i n the relevant d e p a r t m e n t by numbers between 3 0 0 and 3 9 9 .
3 . A v a i l a b i l i t y o f U n i t s
The Science f a c u l t y reserves the right to not offer a unit in a particular year if a m i n i m u m e n r o l m e n t is not reached. The a v a i l a b i l i t y of some units w i l l also d e p e n d on s t a f f i n g .
4 . M i n i m u m P o i n t s D i s t r i b u t i o n
(i) A n a p p r o v e d course of s t u d y m u s t c o n t a i n units selected f r o m the 1 0 0 level such that the c u m u l a t i v e total of possible p o i n t s scored as a c r e d i t for p a s s i n g e x a m i n a t i o n s in these units shall be not less than t w e n t y - e i g h t ( 2 8 ) nor m o r e t h a n f o r t y - e i g h t ( 4 8 ) .
(ii) The Science Faculty suggests that a m i n i m u m points w o r k load for s t u d e n t s s h o u l d be as f o l l o w s :

Faculty p e r m i s s i o n may be g r a n t e d to exceed the m i n i m u m p o i n t s t o t a l ; only in special c i r c u m s t a n c e s w i l l an excess of more than 5 p o i n t s in first year or 4 p o i n t s in each of second and t h i r d years be p e r m i t t e d . N o t e : A first year student is one w h o has earned less than 28 p o i n t s . A second year s t u d e n t is one w h o has earned 28 or more but less than 6 0 p o i n t s .
A t h i r d year s t u d e n t is one w h o has earned 6 0 or more but less than 1 0 0 p o i n t s .
( i i i ) In certain cases a p p r o v a l may be given by the f a c u l t y for c a n d i d a t e s to s u b s t i t u t e s u b j e c t s o r p o r t i o n s of subjects other than those listed in their a p p r o v e d c o u r s e , p r o v i d e d they are relevant to the s t u d e n t ' s course and of s u i t a b l e s t a n d a r d a n d c o n t e n t . (See Reg. 3 . 2 0 . 7 . ) Science s t u d e n t s m u s t have such s u b s t i t u t i o n a p p r o v e d b e f o r e e m b a r k i n g on the s u b j e c t s .
