The project involves upgrading the Bindoon Moora road at the entrance to the Wannamal car park. This clearing is proposed to be undertaken using Main Roads clearing permit CPS 818 and is unlikely to be inconsistent with the 10 clearing principles.

METHODOLOGY

The project is outside DEC acid sulfate soil maps, see Appendix I. https://uat2.landgate.wa.gov.au/bmvf/app/waatlas/), a site survey was used to determine the level of risk to the project. The need for a local assessment of the air quality has been determined on the basis of the criteria from the MRWA Environmental Air Quality Guideline.

ASSESSMENT Natural vegetation on the site has already been disturbed and is unlikely to provide significant habitat for fauna - No nest cavities in the trees to be cleared. There is a recorded DRF population in bushland 550 meters north of the project, but this will not be affected by the work. ASSESSMENT Only 0.1 ha is proposed to be cleared with adjacent vegetation remaining, this project will not cause significant land degradation.

Natural vegetation should not be cleared if the clearing of the vegetation is likely to have an impact on the environmental values of an adjacent or nearby conservation area. ASSESSMENT The nearest DEC managed land is Betts Nature Reserve 500 meters northwest of the project. ASSESSMENT Small amount of clearing, no impact on groundwater as no dewatering is proposed. j) Native vegetation should not be cleared if the clearing of the vegetation is likely to cause or exacerbate the occurrence or intensity of flooding.

ASSESSMENT OF ASPECTS AND IMPACTS

A search of the DIA database did not identify any known sites of Aboriginal heritage significance near the project site. DEC wetland shape files indicate that there are no wetlands near the project area. A search of DEC's contaminated sites database indicates that there are no identified contaminated sites in the project area.

Due to the location, nature and scope of the project, any impact on salinity is considered not relevant. National Heritage Places A search of the Australian Heritage Places Inventory Database located one site near the project - the Wannamal Lake System. A search by the Department of Sustainability, Environment, Water, Population and Communities Protected Matters Search Tool found no Ramsar wetlands near the project.

A search of the Department of Sustainability, Environment, Water, Population and Communities Search Tool for Protected Matters found no threatened ecological communities, 11 threatened species and 5 listed marine species in the vicinity of the project. A search of the Department of Sustainability, Environment, Water, Population and Communities Search Tool for Protected Matters located 7 migratory species in the vicinity of the project.

Please see the email below from the Wannamal community supporting the removal of the few trees we talked about during our site inspection on Bindoon Moora Road. Robert Hawes informed us that you intended to do work at the entrance to the rest area, provided we had no objection to the removal of the lemon-scented gum trees lining the entrance. We would appreciate it if you could keep us in the loop if discussions have taken place with Main Roads as we have not yet had any acknowledgment of our letter requesting further consideration of the safety of the Bindoon Moor Road and Rest Area entrance by yourself not be given. or the Main Roads.

There are many areas where the recent heavy rains have eroded the embankments and the edges of the road are breaking, culverts and drains are filled with dirt, and water lies on the road after heavy rains. The project management measures defined in this EMP are in addition to the Standard Environmental Management Contract Specifications applicable to Category 2 projects. Where applicable, the Main Roads Standard Environmental Contract Specifications (Specifications and 304) should be followed.

Due to the scope and nature of the project, no contingency measures have been identified, as the inherent environmental risks are small. Due to the scope and nature of the project, there is no requirement to review the implementation of the EMP, as the environmental risks are small. Vegetation clearance Ensure that the overall objectives of the alignment and construction works are compatible with maintaining and, where possible, improving the biological integrity of the surrounding environment and minimizing vegetation loss and.

Project Manager Major road construction works will be undertaken in the summer to reduce the potential for. Surface Drainage Maintain the hydrological regime that exists prior to the construction of the proposal. Access to private property and appropriate traffic management measures must be planned and implemented prior to the construction of the works.

Contractor Main roads Any complaints regarding dust will be dealt with as soon as possible. Construction pollution and waste Ensure that the construction of the proposal is managed to a standard that minimizes. The designated service area will be bunded to contain spills or leaks and shall not be located in an area adjacent to drainage areas or streams, or will drain into a temporary sump.
